Singer Taylor Swift and legendary poet Emily Dickinson have family connections. Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson are ancestry related which was announced on 4th March 2024. This news has been revealed by a genealogy company ancestry.

They also claimed that except for Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson, there are also more cousins in their family but there is a twist of time and generation.

Ancestry revealed with ‘TODAY’ on the 4th of March in these words – “Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th-century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut).”

‘TODAY’ also added “Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th-century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut),” a press email for Ancestry states.

“Taylor Swift’s ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line.”

Taylor Swift said on stage in 2022 “If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre,”.

On stage Swift referenced the 19th-century poet while accepting the award of Songwriter Artist of the Decade from the Nashville Song Writers Association International. 

She also speculated that her 9th studio album ‘Ever More’ was inspired by Emily Dickinson. For this reason, the album was released on 10th December 2020 which was the same day as Emily Dickinson’s birthday.

The title of the record also refers to the last word of Emily Dickinson’s poem “One Sister Have I in Our House.” 

Taylor Swift announced Emily Dickinson during her speech at the Grammy’s award taking moment in 2024. She has won the award for the best pop vocal album for her album ‘Midnight’ which was released in 2022.

On stage her acceptance speech was like this – “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans,” Swift said. “So, I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out on April 19.”

Genealogy company Ancestry revealed that the upcoming album by Taylor Swift is titled “The Tortured Poets Department”. The pop superstar also announced several versions of her new album and also revealed the 4th and final version at her show in Singapore.

The bonus track for the final edition title is “The Black Dog’.
